Dr. Julian Bashir underwent illigal genetic enhancements as a child that made him slightly superior in body and mind, but he had to keep that a secret as the process was illegal. The young officer was excited about life on the final frontier, though he quickly learned that the dangers of living on Deep Space 9 were much more real than the holosuite adventutes he enjoyed. Bashir rejected his initial to join the covert ops group Section 31, but later used his connections to secure valuable information on the Dominion War. His ability to find a cure for the genetically engineered plague affecting the founders was instrumental in securing their surrender at the end of the conflict.
